THE JOURNAL
A practical checklist for your next shoot
A useful production brief explains where the content will live and what the shoot must deliver.

A practical starting point for a clearer brief and a more considered project.
Specify the placements
A hero photograph, a product listing and a short-form video need different compositions. List the intended placements and aspect ratios before planning the shot list.
Prepare references and permissions
Collect visual references and confirm access to locations, products and people. Usage permissions should be agreed with the relevant parties before production.
Prioritise the shot list
Separate essential shots from optional ideas. This helps the production team make useful decisions if time or conditions change.
Agree the final delivery
Document expected formats, review rounds and file handover. Raw footage, editable project files and final exports are different deliverables and should not be assumed.
